Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Japan Booth

At the exhibition to be held in January 2026, a Japan booth was set up under the initiative of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), further increasing attention to Japanese textiles, especially Nishijin textiles. The Japan booth, which brought together Japanese textile manufacturers, attracted a great deal of attention, and its fusion of quality backed by a long history, delicate technical capabilities, and modern sensibilities was perceived as extremely refreshing by overseas visitors. At the venue, many opinions were exchanged about applications beyond apparel to interior design, art, and spatial design, providing an opportunity to once again realize the multifaceted value and potential of Japanese textiles.

Held in Milan, the fashion capital

Milan, where Milano Unica is held, is one of the world's leading fashion cities. Home to a cluster of luxury brands and fashion houses, where ideas on design, materials, and craftsmanship intersect, exhibiting in this city carries great significance as it will lead to international recognition. Many visitors viewed materials not simply as "fabrics," but as important elements that shape the brand's worldview and philosophy, and showed great interest in the background and stories behind the materials.
The timing of this year's event coincided with the opening of the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, giving the impression that the entire city is undergoing a major transformation. Amidst accelerating urban development and cultural dissemination, Milan is once again strengthening its presence as a "city that disseminates value to the world."

Kawase Mitsuru Textiles Exhibition

At our exhibition at Milano Unica 2026, we received particularly strong interest in our collaborative products with Alphonse Mucha. We received a great deal of feedback from perspectives and evaluation criteria that differ from those in Japan, which was a very stimulating experience for us. Another major benefit was the high level of interest we received not only from the apparel industry but also from people involved in the interior design industry. Among the many textiles on display, it was striking to see visitors stop and express their strong interest in Nishijin-ori, showcasing its exquisite weaving techniques and intricate expressiveness. These reactions reaffirmed to us that the technical capabilities and delicacy of Japan's traditional industries are worthy of international recognition. We are proud of Japan's traditional crafts, and at the same time, we strongly feel the importance of continuously promoting their value to the world.
