KAWASEMAN＆MUCHA
Mucha’s works continue to enjoy immense popularity in art exhibitions around the world.Through the collaboration between his magnificent artworks and the master craftsmanship of Nishijin weaving, a new “Mucha” world has been brought to life.
世界中の美術展で今も絶大な人気を誇っているミュシャ作品。その素晴らしいミュシャ作品と西陣織の職人技がコラボレーションすることにより新たな「ミュシャ」の世界が誕生しました。
Alphonse Mucha was a painter, illustrator, and graphic artist born in 1860 in Ivančice, Moravia (in what is now the Czech Republic).
Not only did he create designs, but he also produced numerous illustrations, commercial advertisements, and decorative panels, becoming a leading figure of Art Nouveau in Paris.
He expressed a wide range of motifs—such as stars, jewels, and flowers—through elegant female figures, symbolized by the flowing curves of their hair, set against lavish Arabian-inspired backgrounds.
Major Works: Gismonda (1894), The Zodiac (1896), The Arts (1898), The Slav Epic (1912–1926), and others.
ミュシャは１８６０年、モラヴィア（チェコ）のイヴァンチッチェに生まれた画家、挿絵師、グラフィックアーティスト。デザインを描くだけでなく、数多くのイラスト、商業用広告や装飾用パネル等まで手掛け、パリにおけるアール・ヌーボーの寵児となった星、宝石、花等の様々なイメージを、豪華アラビア調の背景とともに髪の曲線美に象徴される女性の姿を用いて表現した。
代表作：「ジスモンダ(1894)」、「黄道１２宮(1896)」、「４芸術(1989)」、「スラブ叙事詩(1912‐1926)」等
Mr. John Mucha, the head of the Mucha Foundation, is also deeply knowledgeable about Japanese culture.
For the production of this collaborative collection, we invited him to Kyoto, where he personally supervised key elements such as the design and color scheme in front of the artisans involved in each stage of the Nishijin weaving process.

此度のコラボレーション作品の制作にあたり、京都にお招きして直接西陣織の各工程の職人達を前に、意匠や色等の監修を行っていただきました。

西陣織のデザイン案を描く図案家の職人と構図等のデザインについての打ち合わせ風景。ミュシャ作品を忠実に再現しながら帯用図案を制作するという、非常に難しい工程です。
