The year 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of the sister-city partnership between Kyoto, Japan, and Prague, Czech Republic. Since the partnership was established in 1996, the two cities have fostered close ties through a wide range of cultural, educational, and artistic exchanges. This year, in particular, numerous commemorative programs and initiatives are being carried out, further strengthening the connection between Kyoto and Prague.
In April, a delegation led by the Deputy Mayor of Prague visited Kyoto, where a ceremony was held to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the sister-city partnership between the two cities. During their stay, the delegation toured various facilities in Kyoto and took part in a number of cultural exchange programs.
▼Kyoto City: Visit of the Prague Delegation：In June, a Kyoto City delegation led by Mayor Koji Matsui visited Prague. During the visit, the delegation attended events commemorating the 30th anniversary of the sister-city partnership, toured local universities and libraries, participated in Japanese cultural programs, and attended a Kyogen performance.

We are deeply honored that our work could serve as part of this occasion for cultural exchange between Kyoto and the Czech Republic, contributing in a small way to the friendship and mutual understanding between the two regions.
Kawase Mitsuori Textile continues its efforts to express the works of Alphonse Mucha through the traditional art of Nishijin weaving.
Through exchanges with cultural institutions in the Czech Republic and the donation of our works, we have sought to share the beauty and legacy of Mucha’s art with audiences in both Japan and the Czech Republic.
As Kyoto and Prague celebrate the 30th anniversary of their sister-city partnership, we hope that the bonds of friendship and cultural exchange fostered through art will continue to grow and flourish in the years ahead.

We visited the Czech Republic, the homeland of Alphonse Mucha, and had the opportunity to meet with representatives of the Embassy of Japan in the Czech Republic. During our visit, we exchanged views on the cultural connections between Mucha and Japan, as well as the continuing influence of his artistic legacy in both countries.
