Nishijin Textiles & Kimono Obi
Kyoto’s weaving culture is said to have developed since the 5th century, when the production of luxurious textiles for the imperial court was encouraged.
Nishijin textiles are high-quality silk fabrics produced in the Nishijin district of Kyoto, with a history of more than 1,200 years.
In 1976, they were officially designated as a Traditional Craft of Japan by the government.
Here we introduce products from four companies, each with over 100 years of history.
Kawase Mitsuru Orimono Co., Ltd. creates textiles inspired by the artworks of Alphonse Mucha using traditional Nishijin weaving techniques of Japan.
