Founded in 1852, Kawaseman draws on more than 170 years of textile knowledge and craftsmanship developed in Nishijin, Kyoto.
Our role is not simply to weave fabric.
We coordinate the process from pattern design and yarn selection to weaving and final inspection, working with specialized Nishijin artisans throughout the production process.
We incorporate precious materials such as gold, silver, and diamonds into selected luxury textiles.
Traditional techniques such as hikihaku are combined with weaving to create sophisticated brilliance and refined texture.
Nishijin textiles are created through approximately 16 specialized processes, with different artisans responsible for pattern design, yarn dyeing, foil work, weaving, and other stages.
These specialized techniques have been passed down through generations.
Kawaseman oversees the overall production process to bring these individual skills together into a finished textile.
