Kyoto’s weaving culture is said to have developed since the 5th century, when the production of luxurious textiles for the imperial court was encouraged.
Nishijin textiles are high-quality silk fabrics produced in the Nishijin district of Kyoto, with a history of more than 1,200 years.
In 1976, they were officially designated as a Traditional Craft of Japan by the government.
Here we introduce products from four companies, each with over 100 years of history.
