About Kawase Mitsu Orimono

ABOUT

About Kawaseman Orimono, a long-established Kyoto textile house.
The history of Kawaseman Orimono began with its founding by the second-generation owner, Yonējirō Kawase, in the final years of the Edo period—an era when Commodore Perry arrived in Japan and visionary figures such as Ryoma Sakamoto and Kaishu Katsu played active roles in a time of great change.
For more than 160 years since then, we have continued to pursue the true essence of beauty to this day.

Patented Technology

Patented “Diamond Hikihaku” – A Nishijin Weaving Technique

This is hikihaku, a traditional technique carried out by a certified traditional craftsman, in which diamonds are ground into a fine powder, applied to washi paper, and then cut into ultra-fine strips measuring 0.3 mm in width to be woven into the weft threads.
This proprietary method, uniquely developed by Kawaseman Orimono, is protected by patent. The brilliance of gemstones—including diamonds, emeralds, and lapis lazuli—enhances and enriches Nishijin textiles with exceptional radiance.
